SACRAMENTO — “Voices Unite in Solidarity: Japanese American and Muslim American Experiences Post-9/11” will be held on Tuesday, March 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Redwood Room on the CSU Sacramento campus.

This workshop will convey the similarities between the treatment of Japanese Americans during World War II and Muslim Americans after Sept. 11, 2001. Speakers and topics include:

• Carole Hayashino, CSUS vice president of university advancement, “The Japanese American Experience.”

PLEASANT HILL — Eight-year-old Natalie Nakatani was diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) in the fall of 2008.

After five rounds of chemotherapy she went into remission and re-enrolled in school this past fall. But her leukemia returned in January and now her only chance for survival is to find a life-saving bone marrow donor as soon as possible. All are encouraged to register, particularly donors of Asian descent.

Natalie’s ethnic background is Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese.

SACRAMENTO — The Assembly Rules Committee voted Feb. 4 to halt the purchase of Toyota vehicles over the company’s handling of the unintended acceleration controversy and its shutdown of the NUMMI manufacturing plant in Fremont.

NAGOYA — Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda spoke at a press conference Feb. 5 in Nagoya, expressing his deep regret for the inconvenience and concern caused to the automaker’s customers.

He also announced that he personally will take the lead toward improving quality around the world by establishing a global quality task force that will conduct quality improvement activities region by region.
