Joint Japanese American/Muslim American Event at CSUS
Posted inSACRAMENTO — “Voices Unite in Solidarity: Japanese American and Muslim American Experiences Post-9/11” will be held on Tuesday, March 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Redwood Room on the CSU Sacramento campus.
This workshop will convey the similarities between the treatment of Japanese Americans during World War II and Muslim Americans after Sept. 11, 2001. Speakers and topics include:
• Carole Hayashino, CSUS vice president of university advancement, “The Japanese American Experience.”
• Adel Syed, civil rights coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Sacramento Valley, “The Muslim American Experience.”
• Andy Noguchi, civil rights representative for the Florin Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), “The Pilgrimage to Manzanar.”
The event is sponsored by the Ethnic Studies Department, First Year Experience/Peer Mentors, CSUS Multi-Cultural Center, Florin JACL and CAIR Sacramento Valley.
