Koto Performances in East Bay
Posted inOAKLAND — Koto masters Shirley Kazuyo Muramoto and Brian Mitsuhiro Wong will perform at two East Bay venues.
On Saturday, Aug. 2, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., they will appear at Buddhist Church of Oakland's Obon Festival along with students Felicia Kazuou Bock, Isabella Lew, Mika Mar, Kiyomi Nomura and Sydney Paderna.
The songs will include "Mai Agaru Fusen" (The Dancing Balloon), "Mari Tsuki" (Playing With a Ball), "Kaguyahime" (The Moon Princess), "Kumo" (The Spider), and "Gaku" (Music) by Tadao Sawai.
A special presentation will be made to Bock for passing her exams for the advanced assistant teacher’s level in July. She will perform "Shushi" (The Solitary Feeling of Autumn) by Katsuko Chikushi, which was one of her test numbers.

Muramoto, Wong, Bock and students will also perform on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the fourth-floor Story Room of the Berkeley Public Library, 2090 Kittredge St. (at Shattuck), as part of the annual Peace Day observance.
