76th Annual Aki Matsuri
Posted inSAN JOSE — All are invited to attend Wesley United Methodist Church's 76th annual Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival) on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It's an old-fashioned church bazaar right in the heart of San Jose's Japantown at 566 N. 5th St. (near Jackson), with plenty of parking on 6th Street.
This Japanese American Christian church has been a presence for over 112 years, and for 76 of them has brought its unique cultural flavor to the neighborhood, the outlying community and the city of San Jose.
Enjoy such offerings as plate lunch, sushi, chicken teriyaki, yakisoba, udon, barbecue ribs, manju and baked goods. Shop for farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, fragrant flowers and houseplants, and hand-made crafts.
Ongoing entertainment includes San Jose Taiko and some local talent from the church — the Wesley 11:30 Band, the Wesley Jazz Ensemble and the Wesley Ukulele Band.
There will also be fun activities for the children.
"It's a wonderful time of outreach for the church, a wonderful time of fellowship, and loads of fun for everyone of any age," said a church spokesperson.
